There are still a few places left to grab if you want to enjoy the opportunity to listen to a special brass band Christmas lecture by Professor Trevor Herbert.

Social history

An acclaimed expert and academic on the social history of the brass band movement in the UK, Prof Herbert will present his lecture entitled, 'Victorian brass bands and the influence on them of the Welsh valleys' at the Gwent Archives on Steelworks Road in Ebbw Vale (NP23 6AA) at 2.00pm on Wednesday 23rd November.

His book, 'The British Brass Band — A Musical and Social History' has long been regarded as one of the most important publications about the brass band movement and the opportunity to hear him speak about the development of brass banding in the heartland of the south Wales valleys has already gained widespread worldwide interest.

Musical addition

In addition to the lecture, music will also be provided by Indigo Brass, a quintet of students from the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in Cardiff.

An event spokesperson told 4BR: "We are delighted to welcome Prof Herbert to Ebbw Vale to speak on a subject that has such resonance at a time when banding in the Welsh valleys is enjoying such success.

We are sure it will be a wonderful opportunity to find out more about a fascinating subject."
