Bands can now enter the 2017 Welsh Open — the traditional contest season kick starter in Wales.

The 2017 domestic Welsh contesting season will kick off in fine style in Porthcawl on Saturday 18th February, with its now traditional curtain raising Welsh Open Championship.

Popularity

The contest has grown in popularity since its inception in 1998 and attracts a packed audience to the famous Grand Pavilion on the town's bracing seafront.

Last year a record field of 14 bands battled it out for the magnificent CISWO Challenge Trophy and £1,000 first prize, with Filton Concert Brass becoming the first English band to carry off the honours (above)

With a generous prize fund and numerous awards on offer it is hoped that the contest will once again attract a fine field of cross border Championship and First Section contenders4BR
