A brand new fanfare composed by Elgar Howarth has been performed to a worldwide audience at the annual Lord Mayor of London's Parade in the heart of the nation's capital.
The work was commissioned by the Lord Mayor, Andrew Parmley as a 25th anniversary present for Dominic Reid OBE, who is the Pageant Master for the event — more commonly called 'The Lord Mayor's Show'.
Allegiance
Dominic is the person who organises the parade with its ceremonial and celebratory elements to accompany the new Mayor on his procession from the City of London to the Royal Courts of Justice where he swears allegiance to the Crown.
He is also a close friend of Elgar Howarth, and as a fan of the music of Bach, the composer included the letters of his name in the final few bars of the work which was performed by the bands of the Grenadier and Coldstream Guards.

Not easy
Elgar Howarth was interviewed in the broadcast telling the BBC that he "…didn't find it that easy"to compose the fanfare, whilst following the performance Dominic Reid was presented with a bound leather copy of the score.
The interview with Elgar Howarth and the performance of the work can been seen at around 15 minutes into the broadcast:
