Thornton the man to be impressed in Cheltenham

The bands taking part in the forthcoming Gloucestershire Brass Band Association Own-Choice March & Test Piece Contest will have to impress David Thornton in the box.

The Gloucestershire Brass Band Association Own Choice March & Test Piece Contest will take place at All Saints' Academy in Cheltenham on Sunday 20th November.

The event will be adjudicated by David Thornton with a host of trophies and cash prizes on offer for the 14 bands from Gloucestershire and surrounding areas to try and win.

Tasty extras

In addition there is also the tasty attraction of great food from the cafe — led by the famous GBBA bacon butty, and the chance to shop early for Christmas with Mr Tuba and Trevada Music catering for all your music and instrumental needs.

The doors open at 9.30am with the first band taking the stage at 10.30am with the Training & Unregistered Section comprising City of Bristol Learners, Lydbrook Training, Lydney Training and Thornbury Town Band.

Section action

Midday sees the action continue with Sections Two, Three and Four with Abergavenny Borough, Arrow Valley Brass, Bream Silver, City of Bristol Brass & Pillowell Silver.

With compere Dave Hayward keeping the day running smoothly the First Section rounds things off with (AW Parker) Drybrook, Chalford, Forest of Dean Brass, Kidlington Concert Brass and Wantage B.

Entry for the day is £5.

Cambrian Brass

Delph Band

May 15 • We are seeking an enthusiastic and musically skilled Associate Conductor to lead and develop our band alongside our current Musical Director Phil Goodwin. . Rehearsals are Mondays and Wednesdays, 8-10pm at Delph Band Club.


Tintwistle Band

May 15 • We have a vacancy for a soprano cornet, and with lots of exciting engagements coming up we would love to get this seat filled!. We rehearse every Monday and Thursday 8-10pm at our own bandroom in Tintwistle, under the baton of our superb MD, Jim Henson.
