The successful musical partnership between conductor Mark Peacock and Hepworth Band has come to an end.

2016 has seen the Yorkshire band return to contesting prominence under the former Fairey and YBS cornet and flugel star, with podium finishes at the Rochdale, Yorkshire Area, Grand Shield, Whit Friday and Dr Martin's events — results that have propelled them back to the higher echelons of the world rankings.

Fabulous journey

Mark told 4BR: "When I took over in 2014 I knew that the band needed rebuilding to regain its reputation as one of the most respected contest outfits in the country.

It's been a fabulous journey with many very memorable performances at high quality events."

Confidence

He added: "We only just missed out on returning to the British Open as well as representing Yorkshire at the National Finals this year, so I leave with the band once again full of confidence and anticipation as the new season looms.

Hepworth is a very talented band that has always given 100% commitment. I will certainly miss the 'Jigby' characters."

Mark said that the split was due to difficulties in arranging the renewal of his contract, but wished Hepworth well for the future. "I'm looking forward to having some more time on my hands and continuing my work with Longridge Band, as they look forward to promotion to the Championship Section in January."

Hepworth is a very talented band that has always given 100% commitment. I will certainly miss the 'Jigby' charactersMD, Mark Peacock.

Future plans

He also revealed that he will be taking his former band Fairey to their annual concert in Beaminster, Dorset later this month and that he has just completed the first term course with the Greater Manchester Youth Brass Band at Salford University.
