Frank has all the brass news and reviews, including a celebration of master arranger Goff Richards by the Foresters Brass Band who draw on all the best players in and around Leicester.

With memories of this year's National Championships still fresh in the air, 'Pageantry' by Herbert Howells has been announced as the test piece for the area contests which, on a timely reissue, is played by the Yorkshire Building Society Band.

Also featured is international euphonium star Steven Mead with music from his new CD 'Lyrical Virtuoso' with Brass Band Buizingen.

22nd November:

The 40th Brass in Concert Championship took place last Sunday at The Sage Gateshead. It's one of the blue ribbon events in the UK banding calendar and one of the leading entertainment contests in the world, attracting bands from all over the UK, Europe and America.

Frank features the 2016 winning performance and talks to the event's chairman Trevor Caffull in this special anniversary year.

Applications for Radio 2's 2017 Young Brass Award closes tomorrow.

Frank features recordings by some previous competitors, including winners Matilda Lloyd, Ross Knight, Katrina Marzella, James Fountain and Lewis Musson who have all gone on to principal positions in prestigious ensembles.

Cambrian Brass

Delph Band
