Dutch bands look for National triumphs in Utrecht

The 2016 Dutch National Championships take place in Utrecht this weekend — and 4BR will be there to enjoy the action.

Utrecht
Bands will be looking for triumphs of their own in Utrecht this weekend.

38 bands will head to Utrecht this weekend to take part in the 2016 Dutch National Championships.

Action

The keenly fought action will take place in the Great Hall of the city's impressive TivoliVrendenburg centre, and starts on Friday afternoon (21st October — 3.30pm local time) with the seven competitors in the Fourth Section, performing the set-work, 'An English Pastorale' by Dean Jones.

Later in the evening the eight bands in the Third Section will take to the stage to perform 'Visions' by Dan Price.

Saturday opens with the Second Section at 10.00am as eight bands tackle Oliver Waespi's 'The Raid', followed by the six First Section rivals battling it out on the new publication, 'Sinfonietta No 3' by Swiss composer Etienne Crausaz.

The Triumph of Time

The Championship Section starts at 6.30pm, when nine bands, led by defending champion Provinciale Brassband Groningen will look to master Peter Graham's 'The Triumph of Time'.

The winner will not only be crowned the 36th National Champion, but will also represent the nation at the 2017 European Championships in Ostend.

4BR Editor Iwan Fox will be making his way to Utrecht to cover the event and to give band by band live coverage in each section.
