Childs Play set for worldwide broadcast

Black Dyke to feature in worldwide broadcast as innovative Childs Play project comes to fruition.

Childs Play
The innovative Childs Play project will be broadcast to the banding world

Following hot on the heels of the success of the Bolsover Festival of Brass, another innovative brass band project, this time featuring featuring Black Dyke, will be broadcast live to the banding world on Saturday 15th October.

Live broadcast

The ground breaking musical collaboration celebrating the history as well as modern day importance of 'Childs Play' can be seen live on the internet on Saturday 15th October.

Led by Bolsover District Council and Shirebrook Town Council in partnership with arts bodies, education providers, film makers, private home developers, composers and broadcasters, it will see Black Dyke in concert alongside Shirebrook Miners Welfare and Shirebrook Academy Wind Band Bands.

Childs Play

As its musical centerpiece will be the premiere of 'Childs Play' — the culmination of a 10 month long project made possible through funding by Arts Council England through 'Grants for Arts'.

Composer Paul Lovatt-Cooper has worked with pupils from the Shirebrook Academy on a brass band and choral soundtrack for a special 14 minute film, which will be performed by Black Dyke under the direction of Prof Nicholas Childs.

It will also feature narration by 'Listen to the Band' presenter Frank Renton as it explores a family friendly time-line history of many well known nursery rhymes and games from the Victorian era to the present time — all underlined by the importance they provide in a child's enjoyment of educational play.

Musical legacy

The live internet broadcast will bring together the musical strands alongside a host of primary school choirs to join Frank Renton for a performance that will provide the local community with a musical celebration of the innovative partnership — and its lasting legacy.

Family programme

Black Dyke will also feature music for all the family — from films such as 'Star Wars' and 'Mission Impossible' to their special 'Black Dyke Spooktacular', 'Sister Act', 'West Side Story', 'Gone with the Wind' and '633 Squadron' — all rounded off in the first half with the premiere of 'Childs Play' and at the end with a massed band item not to be missed!

A great taster trailer has already been produced to showcase the Childs Play project, its music and family friendly approach.
