There are great prizes to be won in every class at the Foden's Open Solo, Duet & Quartet competition.

Foden's Band has announced details of its forthcoming Open Solo, Duet & Quartet competition, which will be held for a sixth year in Sandbach on Saturday 29th October.

Leading event

Band spokesperson Fiona Rolfe told 4BR: "We are once again looking forward to hosting what is regarded as one of the leading events of its kind in the country."

Over 140 participants from around the banding world took part last year, and with generous support from a raft of sponsors and partners such as Besson, Audi (Macclesfield), Astute Music and Lions Youth Brass there is an enviable array of prizes and bursaries on offer.

Support

Fiona added: "We are very grateful for the continued support, but we would welcome additional sponsors who we are sure will benefit from an association with such a vibrant and successful event."

As always, competitors will be able to rub shoulders and gain tips from many of Foden's star players — from music to cake making!

Great atmosphere

"The competition is renowned for its great atmosphere,"Fiona added.

"Foden's players will be on hand throughout the day to offer help and advice as well as showing off their baking and cooking skills to go along with helping with stewarding and ticket sales. We have a few budding Mary Berry's in our ranks!"

Such as been the event's attraction that the accolade of being the furthest-travelled competitor last year went to an Australian competitor — although Fiona revealed that this year that may be beaten by a euphonium player from China!

"We will have to check the map to gain the exact mileage, but it goes to show just how popular the competition has now become"

New Vintage class

Although there will be no percussion classes this year, entries are being sought for the new 'Vintage' Air Varie/Florid class — making 16 brass classes in total — from learners to the Blue Riband 'Open Class'.
