Welsh Area champion Thomas Coaches Mid-Rhondda Band has been busy making some late changes to their line-up as they prepare for the Second Section National Final at Cheltenham on the weekend.
Super sub
The unavailability of 2nd trombone Terry Lambert has meant that the band have called on 'Super Sub' Kevin Gibbs to deputise.
Kevin, son of MD Alan Gibbs, has played with the likes of Brighouse & Rastrick, Black Dyke and Fairey in the past, and last subbed two years ago at the Area contest in Llandudno — although on that occasion he played timps!
Temporary move
Meanwhile, following a period of ill health, horn player Elaine Williams is also unable to play at Cheltenham. Jeffrey Sheppard makes a temporary move from 3rd cornet, re-uniting himself with Robin Davies to reform two thirds of the Cory Band horn section of the late 1970s and early 1980s.
Jeff place in the back row cornets will be ably filled by Tomos Evans, a recent signing from RAF St Athan Band.

Speedy recovery
A Band spokesperson told 4BR: "Everyone wishes Elaine a continued and speedy recovery and hope to see her back in the bandroom very soon.
Our best wishes also go to euphonium and baritone stalwart Norman Prior who unfortunately misses the contest following a minor operation."
