New Unregistered Section launched at Butlins

There is a fantastic opportunity for small ensembles, brass groups and unregistered bands to be part of the Butlins Mineworkers experience at Skegness next year.

Butlins experience
The Butlins Mineworkers Championship is looking for lots of different ensembles to take part in the 2017 contest.

Butlins has announced details of its new look Unregistered Section which will form part of the Mineworkers Festival at the Skegness Resort on Sunday 15th January next year.

New event

It is hoped that the new event will give unregistered bands, ensembles and groups the opportunity to take part in the weekend of music making and to showcase their musical talents along the way.

Although there will be generous prizes on offer, it is hoped that brass ensembles, small bands, traditional non-competitive bands and even special student and 'one-off' brass band groups of any standard will take part.

Encouraging talent

Contest organiser, Brian Eggleshaw told 4BR: "We want to try and include as many musicians as possible in the Butlins Mineworkers Championship experience. This event is all about encouraging talent and showcasing all that is good about brass banding.

If it's a quartet to full sized band, then come along and give a performance."

Relaxed rules

The relaxed rules (no registration, up to 35 players) will see the groups perform a 15 minute set to impress the adjudicator who will be sat in the open. The entry fee is £40.00 (non returnable). Only recognised brass bands instrumentation may be used.

All groups will receive an adjudication report and pennant, whilst there is a top prize of £200 and podium prizes of £150, £100 and £50, as well as a solo prize.
