The Pemberton Old JJB Wigan Band has announced the death of one of their longest serving members, Stevie Hyde (above left of image).

Impeccable

A spokesperson told 4BR: "Stevie joined the organisation in the early 1990's and quickly established himself as a reliable, honest, hard working and extremely valuable band member. His enthusiasm and attendance were impeccable.

Stevie could always be relied on to help out at B Band rehearsals and to encourage and guide our youth band players. He was always ready to share his enthusiasm and passion for music and taught a number of players, encouraging and developing their musical talent."

You could not have wished to beat a more kind, caring, funny and intelligent manPemberton Old JJB Wigan Band

Incredible talent

They added: "As a result of his incredible talent and technical ability, he was affectionately known to his fellow players as 'The Machine' — easily perfecting the most challenging contest music. Yet he was an incredibly humble player, who never wanted to be in the limelight, but made a fantastic bumper-up in our senior band for many, many years.

You could not have wished to beat a more kind, caring, funny and intelligent man. Despite being so humble, Stevie remains one of the most talented musicians to ever grace the band. His enthusiasm and talent will be missed greatly throughout the organisation."

The family funeral has taken place.
