The South West Brass Band Association (SWBBA) has asked its 63 member bands to help them find a willing person to fill the important role of Association Secretary.
It follows the news that the indefatigable Brian Elliott (right) will stand down after 23 outstanding service in the Spring of 2017.
Excellent work
Although no-one has yet come forward to the Executive Committee, it is hoped that someone will take up the role to ensure the Association can continue its excellent work supporting the brass band movement in the region.
The SWBBA has however made it clear that without the role being filled, their ability to organise contests and promote educational workshop events could be curtailed or even ended.
The overriding criteria is enthusiasm, organisation and communication abilities and a desire to work as part of a team which is currently re-examining closely how tasks are best managed4BR
Support
A letter to member bands stated: "Interest in the Association has been waning for some years and the Executive Committee need reassurance from bands and players that events will be supported.
Adequate entries and ticket sales have to be achieved to ensure the Association remains financially viable. The ability for the SWBBA to continue in its current format is therefore now seriously in doubt."
Enthusiasm
The Association has offered support and guidance to anyone who wishes to take on the important, but rewarding role — with enthusiasm and stamina just as important as skill sets that can be enhanced and developed.
As they state: "The overriding criteria is enthusiasm, organisation and communication abilities and a desire to work as part of a team which is currently re-examining closely how tasks are best managed."
