The 60-strong National Children's Brass Band of Great Britain (NCBBGB) will feature a number of exciting works in their end of course concert this year.
The band, under the baton of Artistic Director, Prof Nicholas Childs will soon return to Repton School near Derby for its annual residential course and concert, where a week of hard work and fun will culminate in an end of course concert on July 30th at the school's multi-million pound concert hall.
Guest soloist and premiere
Guest soloist will be Cory principal cornet Tom Hutchinson, who will perform 'Charivari', 'The Green Hornet' and 'Sultry Swan', whilst the band will also give the world premiere of the specially commissioned 'Waterfront Sketches' — written by popular Scottish composer Alan Fernie.
Repertoire
Other works on the programme include 'The Journal of Phileas Fogg', 'Trumpets Wild', 'Appalachian Mountain Folk Song Suite' (James Curnow), 'Streamline Peaks' (Paul Lovatt Cooper) and 'Patterns for Brass Band' — originally composed by Edward Gregson in 1974, and now seen as ground breaking work for youth bands after it was used as the set-work at the 1974 Butlins Youth Championship of Great Britain.
Tutors for the course will include Tom Hutchinson, Zoe Hancock, Owen Farr, Aiden Smith), Matthew Routley and Gary Curtin.
