Wink waves goodbye at Carlton Brass

The popular Paul 'Wink' Watson steps down from Carlton Brass.

Paul Watson

Nottingham based Carlton Brass have announced that their popular MD, Paul Watson — known affectionately as 'Wink' to all his friends, has chosen to step down from the role due to ill health.

Success

During his two and a half years at the helm, Paul led the band to numerous contest successes, not least in 2015 where victories in the Second Section at North East Midlands and Midlands Regional contests were followed by a memorable fourth place finish at the National Finals in Cheltenham and promotion back to the First Section.

Wyatt appointment

The band has also announced that they have secured the services of Desford principal cornet Gary Wyatt as their new MD. The highly experienced musician will join the band where his sister Della and brother-in-law Dave have been playing since the start of the year.

The band added that they would like to thank Tony Wilson and John Davis for taking rehearsals and concerts during the short interim period.
