Tongwynlais Temperance has appointed 18 year-old Harvey Rees as their new principal cornet.
It follows the decision of Charlotte Chambers to take a step onto the repiano seat after two years in the role, due to increased work commitments.
Fine playing
During her time as principal, the band qualified for the National Finals as well as securing a top-six finish at the Grand Shield in 2016. Her own fine playing also saw her claim deserved 'Best Cornet' awards at the 2015 and 2016 Welsh Open.
Sad but delighted
Speaking of the appointment, Resident Conductor Christopher Bond told 4BR: "We are sad that Charlotte has stepped down, but delighted she has agreed to remain a crucial part of the band on repiano cornet.
Her dedication, particularly in the last two-year period, has been without fault, and she has led the cornet section with distinction.
We are now looking forward to working with Harvey as he embarks upon his studies at the Royal Welsh College in Cardiff — and we know he will shine in his new role."

Harvey initially joined Tongwynlais as a cornet player three years ago, progressing impressively onto the solo cornet bench. He played principal cornet for the first time at this year's Welsh Area contest in Swansea, which led to the band's fifth successive qualification to the National Finals.
He will commence his studies in September with tuition from Tom Hutchinson of Cory.
A band spokesperson added: "We would like to thank Charlotte for leading the cornet section during the last two years, and we are delighted she'll be remaining a crucial part of the team.
