Brass in Concert maintains focus on youth and education

The Brass in Concert Festival weekend has a great focus on youth and education — and you can be a part of it too...

Further information on the exciting blend of youth events at the 40th Brass in Concert Festival have been announced.

Workshops and taster sessions

The increasingly popular series of Workshops and Taster Sessions will once again be an integral part of the first day's activities on Saturday 19th November, and will be led by Cory MD, Philip Harper and a team of tutors from the defending Brass in Concert champion.

The Welsh band will also be joined by Yamaha baritone artist Katrina Marzella as well as Laura Jackson, who will lead the brilliantly enthusiastic Elementary group.

At the end of workshops the participants will provide a free performance for people to enjoy on the Sage Gateshead concourse.

Exciting developments

BiC spokesperson John Woods told 4BR: "The acoustics for this are brilliant with the backdrop of the River Tyne and the city skyline offering superb views of the historic quayside (above)."

He added: "Further exciting elements of the festival will be announced during the coming weeks, including a wonderful exhibition that will reflect the 40 years since Brass in Concert started.

It will profile bands, programmes, soloists and conductors, with photographs and commentary from many of the brass band personalities involved in the event's progressive journey."

For those wishing to attend the workshops, the music being played includes 'Liberty Bell' (Sousa), 'The Pink Panther' (arr. Richards), 'By the Cool Waters' and 'Totem Dance' from 'Indian Summer' (Eric Ball), 'Can't Buy me Love' (arr. Broadbent) and 'Amadeus' (Mozart, arr. Fernie).
