Poynton Youth Band's preparations for their forthcoming contest appearance at the Kirby Lonsdale contest this weekend have suffered a devastating blow.
The Poynton area near Stockport was hit by torrential rain over the weekend which resulted in many streams, rivers, lakes and canals bursting their banks — resulting in flood waters racing into their rehearsal facility to damage instruments, the music library and contents (above).
Lost
Unfortunately, most of the library has been destroyed and several of the instruments have now been written off due to the contaminated water — including percussion instruments and several tubas.
Devastating news
Musical Director Mike Eccles told 4BR: "In the 35 years the band has been in existence we have never had to deal with anything like this. It's been devastating news.
We have been working very hard over the last few years and performances have been getting better and better with fantastic musicians and a dedicated committee.
However, I'm sure we can bounce back from this and also our friends at Vernon Building Society Band who have also suffered through this flood."

Help
Mike added: "If anyone can help us we would be immensely grateful. The band relies on these instruments, so it can provide them to players. The band would kindly welcome any kind donations of instruments if anyone has any that are no longer being used."
