Cory set for home nations tour

The world's number 1 ranked band will be showcasing their talents in the North, South, East and West of their home nation this year...

Cory

The reigning European, National and Brass in Concert champion Cory will be showcasing their title winning talents throughout their home nation over the coming months thanks to a pioneering new scheme supported by the Arts Council Wales.

Five date tour

The five date tour will encompass venues in the North, South, East and West of the country — starting this weekend at the Y Ganolfan Arts Centre in Porthmadog and ending in St David's Cathedral in Pembrokeshire in December.

In between they will also perform at the Brangwyn Hall in Swansea, the Royal Welsh College of Music in Cardiff and the Lyric Theatre in Carmarthenshire.

Belonging

Musical Director Philip Harper told 4BR: "It's always struck me that strangely, the further away from Wales the band travels the better attended our concerts become, so the objective of this innovative project is to bring to the people of Wales what belongs really to them — the finest brass band in the world!

Our concerts will feature the best of what we do — which as the titles we have won show, means we are also officially the most entertaining band in the world too. I can assure everyone that they will be guaranteed a great time hearing us perform in concert."

Long term links

Philip revealed that the scheme also aims to link the band to new organisations and groups to create further long term musical interest.

He added: "The scheme aims to be much more than just playing to people who already know about Cory Band. We are looking to make new friends and associates, and so each concert has a link-up with a different musical group who will share the stage with us and hopefully generate cross-genre interest."

Acclaimed

To emphasis this approach the Porthmadog concert will see Cory joined by the acclaimed Cor Merched Ysgol y Gader to perform works such as 'Adiemus' by Karl Jenkins and a new arrangement of 'World in Union'.

As Philip added: "I hope those long-term fans of the choir will also enjoy the new experience of listening to a brass band too!"
