Shirebrook line-up set to entertain

Six bands will battle for the Shirebrook Town Music Festival Entertainment contest next month.

There is sure to be plenty of varied repertoire and enjoyable music making on show at the Shirebrook Town Music Festival Entertainment contest next month.

Generous prize fund

The contest is being held at Shirebrook Leisure Centre on Sunday 10th July, when six bands will deliver their 30 minute programmes with the aim of claiming part of the generous prize fund.

The winner will take home with them £750, with podium prizes of £400 and £200 and a further £200 for the 'Most Entertaining' Second, Third and Fourth Section bands respectively. The adjudicator is Thomas Wyss, Musical Director of the Leyland Band.

Foden's concert

The previous evening, the reigning North West Regional champion Foden's will appear at Shirebrook Leisure Centre (Saturday 9th July — 7.00pm), with tickets available from Shirebrook Leisure Centre on 01623 748313 or Shirebrook Town Council on 01623 742475 priced at £12 and £10 concessions.

Rushden Town Band

November 25 • Trombone Player. This friendly band is looking for a tenor trombone player to join its ranks. The band enjoys playing at regular concerts each year and is off to the Rhineland next year on its second tour.


Chinnor Silver

November 25 • You need to be quick, we are almost full but just require Eb bass and percussion. We are a friendly, welcoming and ambitious band and start 2025 at the top of our second section ranking table. We rehearse on a Wed evening in our own bandroom in Chinnor.


Hathersage Band

November 25 • Hathersage Brass Band is a thriving community band. We enjoy making music and have a good gig schedule. An opportunity has arisen for the right person to join our Principal Cornet Ed as co-principal. Are you up for the challenge? This is our only vacancy.
