Amazing demand
A British Open spokesperson told 4BR: "The demand for tickets has been amazing — and continues to show that the British Open remains an iconic event in the international banding calendar.
The ingredients of an exceptional line-up of competitors performing a wonderful test-piece by Peter Graham in one of the finest concert halls in the world, is an immense attraction to brass band lovers all over the globe."
Triumph of Time
Grimethorpe Colliery Band will defend its title on Prof Peter Graham's, 'The Triumph of Time', against a field of rivals that this year also includes Brass Band Willebroek from Belgium and the New Zealander champion Wellington Brass.
Majesty's invite
Meanwhile, the cultural importance of the British Open in British musical life over the last century and half has also been recognised by the event's Patron, Her Majesty the Queen.
Karyn and Martin Mortimer along with contest controller, Frank Hodges and his wife Pat have been invited alongside representatives of charities and organisations that hold her patronage, to a special event in London as part of the national celebrations on the occasion of her 90th birthday.
