Although the month of May invariably means lots of exams for students, many with brass band contesting coursing through their veins also took time to take part in the Whit Friday contests in Saddleworth and Tameside.
Unique atmosphere
Many students joined bands at all levels as well as many university ensembles, whilst members of the UniBrass organising committee were present both as competitors and spectators to soak up the unique atmosphere.
The highlight of the night was what many believe was the first ever university brass band victory at the event, with Birmingham Conservatoire Band's victory at the Lees Contest under the direction of MD, Ian Porthouse. Meanwhile, the University of Nottingham Band camed fourth place at the Friezland contest.
Entertained
As well as competing for prizes, a number of student bands thoroughly entertained the vast crowds with their playing and colourful 'deportment' and marching skills, with the University of Sheffield Band performing a version of 'Summer Nights' from the film 'Grease', specially arranged by two of their members.
Meanwhile, Warwick University Brass Society (above) brought a bit of Madness to proceedings with their road march to 'Baggy Trousers' and the University of Lancaster brought the spirit of Leicester City's recent Premiership title victory with the 'Match of the Day' theme.

Thrill
Newly elected UniBrass Chairman Andy Straiton told 4BR: "It was such a thrill to see so many of our students playing a part in the greatest free show on earth. We know that university bands can entertain from the UniBrass contest, so to see them out performing on the streets of Saddleworth and Tameside was brilliant.
With Whit Friday falling later next year, I hope to see even more student bands out taking part and thoroughly enjoying themselves!"
