Royal Northern gains global boost

The Royal Northern College of Music to receive enhanced Institution-Specific Funding, in recognition of its world leading role.

RNCM

The Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester has been recognised by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) as one of the world's leading music conservatoires.

It has become the only music conservatoire outside London to receive enhanced Institution-Specific Funding, as the RNCM continues to develop its global reputation by being able to attract many of the world's finest musicians to teach at the institution.

Confirming status

The additional funding is seen as confirming the RNCM's status as a world-class music educator and places it within an elite group of leading international conservatoires.

The increase in our funding, which will be in place until at least 2020, will enable us to continue to develop the next generation of world-class musiciansProfessor Linda Merrick, RNCM Principal

Delighted

Professor Linda Merrick, RNCM Principal stated: "I'm delighted that HEFCE has acknowledged the excellence in teaching, performance and musicianship that characterises everything we do at the RNCM.

The increase in our funding, which will be in place until at least 2020, will enable us to continue to develop the next generation of world-class musicians.

It will also position us to deliver our ambitious plans that will enhance still further the excellent experience already enjoyed by our highly talented students."
