Death of Mike Hawkins

4BR has been informed of the death of Mike Hawkins, who has died in Australia.

Mike was the former principal trombone of the CWS Manchester Band in the heyday of Alex Mortimer, and was a member of the band that won the National Championship of Great Britain in 1962 and 1963.

He went on to join the Coldstream Guards before emigrating on joining the Royal Australian Air Force Band in Geelong.
