The Musical Arts Programme at the University of Salford will hold their end of year concert this year in aid of Multiple Sclerosis.
The charity concert, which will be held on Wednesday 4th May (7.30pm) will feature the University Brass Band, University Symphonic Wind Ensemble, University Choir and guests artists Ventus — a recently formed professional trombone quartet.
Highlights
The concert provides an opportunity to showcase the activities, awards and tributes that have taken place through the year, including highlights such as winners of the ensemble contest, the Kirklees Composing Competition winners, and last year's conducting and performance award winners.
Directed by Brett Baker, Tom Davoran, Matthew Brown and Sue Hickey, the concert will take place in Peel Hall (University of Salford M5 4WT).
The Music and Dance Directorate are delighted to welcome alumni Eilir Williams as our special guest.
Ventus Quartet
The Ventus trombone quartet consists of the well known trombone players Carol Jarvis, Jonathan Pippin, Beth Calderbank and Christopher Fower and will feature along with the University Trombone Ensemble, winners from the previous semester.
New chapter
Programme Leader Brett Baker told 4BR: "This year marks the end of an era at the Adelphi Campus and the beginning of a exciting new chapter as we move to the new building at the Peel Park Campus.
The new music team of Dan Price, Tom Davoren, Paul Holland, Gary Curtin, Mark Langdon, David Thornton, Jim Fieldhouse, Helen Varley and Fiona Slominska have revitalised what we do here at Salford.
We also want to acknowledge the huge amount of work that has taken place by long established tutors such as Robin Dewhurst, Les Niesh, Mark Wilkinson, Brian Taylor, Peter Christian, Billy Millar and John Wilson.
I do hope you can all make this special event."

Masterclass
On Friday 6th May at the same venue, the University of Salford Brass Band will feature in the masterclass series where they record some of the music played this year.
They will also try to enlighten students on the techniques and pitfalls of recording a brass band — led by Jess Tredea (Salford Alumni) and Keith Johnson of KMJ Recordings who are long time partners of the Musical Arts pathway.
