An idea that started as a slightly daft idea in the pub after an Emley Band rehearsal in Yorkshire will celebrate its sixth birthday this weekend.
The Emley Real Ale Festival is now firmly established in the village calendar and is a favourite with the locals and visitors alike. The idea started with Adam Clewes, the grandly named 'Ale Festival Coordinator', who went to another beer festival in a similar sized village hall.
Liquid
Today, it has grown into a tremendous liquid as well as financial success for the band as instruments, stands and general equipment are cleared away to be replaced by a bar, pumps, cooling system and plenty of pint glasses!
MD Garry Hallas told 4BR: "It's a great weekend to catch up with lots of friends, and meet new people. The villagers might not all love brass band music but this is a way they can support the band and enjoy themselves."
Raise a few quid
He added: "It's replaced the traditional sponsored events to help raise funds, meaning were no longer pestering friends and family for money, it's a much more sociable event, and I no longer have to walk 15 miles to raise a few quid!"
This Easter weekend will see 12 ales sourced from all over the country, alongside three real ciders, a few glasses of wine, soft drinks, and burgers from the local farm shop.
Remember though — do not drink and drive, or drink and try and play a bass trombone...4BR
