New top man at Brighouse

Dominic Longhurst to take over principal cornet role with Brighouse & Rastrick as Kyle Lawson returns home to New Zealand.

Dominic Longhurst

Brighouse & Rastrick has announced that Dominic Longhurst will replace Kyle Lawson as the new principal cornet of the Yorkshire band with immediate effect.

It follows Kyle's reluctant decision to return home to New Zealand for personal reasons and to continue his role in the New Zealand Army Band. Kyle will continue to play on the cornet bench until the European Championships.

Difficult

He commented to 4BR: "It's been a difficult decision to return to New Zealand. The last eight months have been an experience of a lifetime that I will hold close to me for years to come.

I can't thank the band enough for giving me this opportunity, and especially Professor David King for all the support and guidance getting me here. I'd also like to wish Dominic Longhurst all the very best in his new position."

New role

The new principal cornet was also sad to see a good friend return home, although proud to take on his new role: "I'm saddened to have to say goodbye to Kyle, who is one of my best mates and a world class cornet player.

However, I'm extremely proud to accept the position and am grateful to have the support of everyone around me in doing so. The past 12 months playing with the band have been immense, and I look forward to my debut at the European Championships under Professor King."

Look forward

Band spokesman Ryan Watkins added: "Kyle has been a world-class performer since taking on the role last August.

We are sad to have to see Kyle leave, but we now look forward to welcoming Dom to the hot-seat and watch him progress with the band for what promises to be a very exciting future."
