The four talented young performers who will take part in the final of the BBC Radio 2 Young Brass Award 2016 competition have been announced.
Trombonist Samuel Dye, French Horn Benjamin Goldscheider, bass trombonist Kyle MacCorquodale and euphonium player Daniel Thomas were selected by judges Stephen Bell and Ben Thomson following a remarkable, high quality semi-final that that saw eight performers (above) separated only after much discussion and debate.
Tremendous final
The final will be broadcast live on Radio 2 from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester on Friday April 15th, presented by Ken Bruce and Listen to the Band's Frank Renton.
Producer Terry Carter told 4BR: "This promises to be a night of tremendous music making and excitement as we reach the conclusion of our search for the next brass star.
The four talented young players will perform alongside Grimethorpe Colliery Band who will give a concert of their own featuring the fabulous Opera Babes as the judges decide who should take the coveted award."
Judges
It was revealed that the judges for the final will be Professor Edward Gregson, tuba virtuoso Les Neish and Stephen Bell who following his time as principal horn with the BBC Concert Orchestra is now Associate Conductor Pops with The Halle Orchestra.
