Markham & District Band has announced the appointment of Matthew Rowe as their new MD.

The talented young Cornishman is currently studying at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in Cardiff and is also the solo euphonium of Tongwynlais Band.

Victory

Matt led the band to victory at the SEWBBA contest in Merthyr last November, helping the band claim the overall Welsh League title — a success that helped cement him in his new role, following the departure of Gareth Pritchard who is now enjoying life in Florida.

A band spokesperson told 4BR: "We would like to thank Gareth for his hard work over the past few years, the foundations of which are now showing, and also to wish him and his family continued happiness in Florida."

Signings

The band also announced the appointment of former player Andrew Johnson who returns on solo trombone, Paul Jones on Bb bass and Darren Blakemore on second euphonium.
