The list of players who will be taking part in the unique concert celebrating the life of the legendary Major Peter Parkes is starting to be announced.
The event takes place at Queen Elizabeth Hall in Oldham on Saturday 21st May.
Tuba stars
The first section revealed is the engine room of the bass section, with former Halle Orchestra player Andrew Duncan joining up with current and former Black Dyke foundation makers, Phil Goodwin and Geoff Harrop — both members of the band which claimed numerous titles under 'The Major'.
Meanwhile, the BBb tuba section will be made up of David Nesbitt — also a member of the famous 1985 Double winning section, and Simon Gresswell, who played under the conductor at both Black Dyke and Williams Fairey.

Best in the world
Simon told 4BR: "We were all very fortunate to play under Major Peter Parkes. The best memory I had of him was in 1993 winning the 'Double' with Faireys. We just knew we had the best brass band conductor in the world to lead us."
Extra help
With the band determined to make a foundation rumbling mark on the night, the section is supplemented by Colin Dixon — a member of Ever Ready who won countless titles with him, and Alan Gourlay from Whitburn, who was part of the band that dominated contesting north of the border under his command.
