The annual Brass Band League of Northern Ireland Solo & Ensemble competition took place last weekend where there were plenty of great performances for adjudicators Brett Baker and Paul McCann to enjoy.

Good

It proved to be a good day for the 1st Old Boys Band organisation with prizes for their players spread across the sections — from the 10 and unders, straight up to the senior sections.

Band spokesperson Mark Bingham told 4BR: "A special mention should go to 13 year old cornet player Louise Bell who won the '15 and under' class and the 'Senior B' solo.

Then there was 13 year old Daniel Sharpe on horn who was third in the 'B Solo' and 12 year old tuba player Andrew Milligan who came fourth in the 'Senior Slow Melody'.

Foden's benefit

He added: "These three players are also members of the National Children's Band of Great Britain and benefitted from playing solos and working with Michael Fowles and Foden's Band the week before in Armagh."
