Ty Cerdd has revealed details of its 2016 youth music programmes which includes performances from the National Youth Brass Band of Wales led by Tom Davoren.
Euph star
The band will be joined by Belgian euphonium star Glen Van Looy for their concert appearances at Aberystwyth University and Haberdashers Monmouth School for Girls at the end of July.
This year's repertoire will be linked by a celebration of Shakespeare 400 and the music of Welsh composer Mervyn Burtch who passed away in 2015, whilst three new compositions by Tom Davoren and Paul Mealor will also be featured.
Talented young musicians
Ty Cerdd Director, Gwyn L. Williams told 4BR: "We are delighted to offer our talented young musicians such a wonderful range of exciting and worthwhile experiences. We feel sure that they will treasure the memories of working with inspirational figures like Paul Mealor and Glen Van Looy."
Tom Davoren will conduct the National Youth Band in concerts at Aberystwyth MusicFest and in Monmouth that feature Glen Van Looy in performances of Peter Meechan's 'Euphonium Concerto'.
Welsh music
Welsh music is very much to the fore with pieces by Alun Hoddinott, Gareth Glyn and Mervyn Burtch being featured as well as the first performance of Paul Mealor's 'Purcell Variations' in its revised form.
