New brace at Burry Port

Welsh Open champion adds to the ranks with a brace of talented signings.

Burry Port Town Band has announced two new signings as they prepare for the defence of their Welsh Open Championship title in Porthcawl later this month.

New signings

Alex Salter joins on solo baritone following an enjoyable stint at Pontardulais, whilst Ryan Huxtable, formerly of Mount Charles, augments the bass section after starting his studies at Cardiff University.

Fine players

Michael Thorne, the band's co-principal conductor, told 4BR: "Alex and Ryan are very fine players and we look forward to working with them in our preparation for the Welsh Open and Welsh Regionals."

Band Chairperson Sarah Jones, added: "We are delighted that Alex and Ryan have chosen to join us.

In addition to our usual concert and contest schedule we have lots to look forward including a CD recording and a world premiere which commemorates aviatrix Amelia Earhart's solo transatlantic flight."

Premiere

The brass band premiere of 'Stillness' from the pen of Tom Davoren will follow a string of international premieres given by the University of Saskatchewan Wind Orchestra, University of Kansas Wind Ensemble, Central Band of the RAF and the Montclair State University Wind Symphony.
