Entries are already being received for the 2016 University of Salford International Composer competition — although the deadline for the competition is fast approaching on 25th March.
Shakespeare
2016 marks the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare and composers are encouraged to seek inspiration from an aspect of this iconic figure.
Very encouraging
Composition Lecturer Dan Price told 4BR: "The responses we have received so far is very encouraging. We have already had entries from the UK and Europe as far away as Brazil and California."
After the preliminary round, six finalists will be selected with their compositions performed by the Central Band of Royal Air Force.
David Childs
In addition the Band of the RAF will also be performing a small concert which will feature internationally renowned euphonium soloist, David Childs.
The concert and competition are a free public event which will take place at the University's newly refurbished Peel Hall on 15th April at 1.00pm.
