25 year wait nearly over for Stockport Silver

A new name will hopefully appear in the North West Regional programme next year as Stockport Silver prepares for a long awaited return to the contest stage.

Stockport Silver

After a quarter of a century of non-competitive music making, Stockport Silver Band will make a welcome return to the North West Regional Championship in 2016.

Take to the stage

The band hopes to take to the Fourth Section stage at the Winter Gardens on the 28th February under the baton of MD Ian Colwell.

Spokesperson Kat Tomlinson told 4BR: "With the exception of appearances on the Whit Friday circuit, the last competitive events the band performed at was at the now defunct Pontins qualification contest and North West Area Championship way back in 1991.

Regular players

Kat added: "We were close to folding in 2004 when a call out was made to find new players, and since then we have built slowly with dedicated members and now have 24 regular players — some of who played with the band the last time we were at Blackpool for the Area contest."
