Wintery return for Glover

Sterling euphonium star Mark Glover will be swapping the warmth of Singapore for the cold of the festive Midlands next month.

Sterling euphonium artist, Mark Glover (above), will fly in from his home in Singapore to perform as guest soloist with Audley Brass in Staffordshire in December.

Premiere

The concert will feature the UK premiere of a new brass band arrangement of the famous 'Bells across the Meadow' by Albert Ketelbey, written specifically for him by the Arranger in Residence of the Staffordshire Band, Wesley Kendrick.

Mark will also perform Wesley's arrangement of Silent Night, which is titled 'Christmas Eve', and other solos, and marks a welcome return to UK shores for the talented musician who has enjoyed a highly successful teaching and playing career in Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Malaysia, Australia and most recently Brazil.

Nothing better

However, he told 4BR that he couldn't think of anything better than a freezing cold Midlands night to come home to!

"As you can imagine the weather is very different in my part of the banding world, so you cannot beat playing solos in a local church, with a brass band, in my home country, at Christmas time."

Coaching

Mark will also take time out of his busy schedule to help prepare rehearse and coach the band on the night as well giving an adjudication of their performance of the forthcoming 2016 Area set work, 'The Journal of Phileas Fogg'.

Great opportunity

Audley MD, Tom Hancock added: "This is a great opportunity for the band to have the chance to work with a world class soloist like Mark, let alone be the focus for his UK Premiere of a new piece of music."
