Canberra launches capital youth initiative

Canberra Brass looks to the future with the launch of a youth brass extravaganza in the heart of the Australian capital.

Canberra Brass

Canberra Brass recently held their 'Youth Brass Extravaganza' event with the aim of establishing the organisation's first ever youth brass band in the heart of the Australian capital.

Spirit of brass

The band hopes to foster the spirit of brass with the creation of Canberra Youth Brass, with the first youth workshop providing the opening phase in developing a future stream of well tutored brass and percussion players.

Over 20 enthusiastic youngster aged between 8 and 16 came together from local concert band and orchestral backgrounds to participate in a day that provided an exciting taste of what they can hopefully be part of in future.

Excellent response

Led by Canberra's MD Adam Powers and a number of band players, the response was excellent with the children expertly introduced to new as well as traditional brass band repertoire ranging from the classic march 'Slaidburn' to Beyonce's 'Crazy in Love'.

At the conclusion, everyone put on a performance to showcase what they had worked on in front of a packed audience of friends and family, with the highlight a brilliantly energetic performance of 'Crazy in Love' complete with choreography and MD dancing his way round the room with his tuba!

Overwhelmed

A spokesperson told 4BR: "Parents and organisers were overwhelmed with what had been achieved in this short space of time and were amazed by the brass band sound.

Now we will be holding a series of rehearsals for participants and anyone else interested in being a part of Canberra Youth Brass in 2016."

2016 launch

Canberra Youth Brass will officially be launched in 2016 at the start of the academic year.
