Shepherd help for Gurkha charity response

The Shepherd Group Band has helped raise £500 for the invaluable work of the Gurkhas in earthquake torn Nepal.

Presentation

The Shepherd Group Band recently played proud host to two Gurkha soldiers from the 2nd Signal Regiment, currently based in York.

Relief effort

At a recent concert (above) a cheque for £500 was handed to the soldiers to help their work in aid of the relief effort following the devastating earthquakes in Nepal earlier this year.

Staff Sergeant Mark Marsh is currently serving with the Regiment and was in Afghanistan when the earthquakes struck.

Loss

A number of the Gurkhas lost family, friends and homes, so with the strong connection to the band's home city of York, the concert was arranged and the fund raising was started.

It was a tremendous privilege to meet the Gurkhas, Khagendra Tamang and Hom Yongya, and present them with a cheque during a very emotional concertMD, Richard Wilton

Privilege

MD, Richard Wilton told 4BR: "It was a tremendous privilege to meet the Gurkhas, Khagendra Tamang and Hom Yongya, and present them with a cheque during a very emotional concert."
