Bionic Scot set for 500 kilometre target

Former SBBA Development Officer Alan Edmond has got on his bike for a great charity cause in Australia.

The former Scottish Brass Band Association Development Officer Alan Edmond has taken perfectly to Australian life since he and his family moved to Perth a few years ago.

Bionic body

So much so that he is currently dragging what he calls his 'overweight, unfit, old bionic body' on a charity bike ride as part of the Great Cycle Challenge 2015.

He has targeted a total of 500 kilometers to ride throughout October to help raise money for 'Fighting Kids Cancer' and he has already raised over $625 — well above his initial target.

Fitness

Alan (left of image) told 4BR: "The distance is a bit ambitious for me, given my ever so slightly below par current state of fitness, but reading the stories about these poor kids with cancer is really driving me forward and I want to do everything I can to help raise the much needed funds.

People who know me, know that I give everything to anything I'm involved in — so 500 kilometers it is!"

Exchange rate

As ever though, Alan is keen to make the most of a good exchange rate — especially with friends from all over the banding world.

He added: "With the Aussie dollar being so weak even a couple of quid is worth almost $5 over here!"

Help the cause

All the official details of the event and links to sponsor Alan can be seen below — so why not give him a financial push towards his target.
