Report & Results: 2015 Fife Charities Contest

Kingdom Brass return to commanding winning ways at Fife Charities contest.

Kingdom Brass

Kingdom Brass celebrated a commanding return to contest winning form by reclaiming the Fife Charities contest in Kirkcaldy.

Clean sweep

Under the baton of the experienced Raymond Tennant, they secured a clean sweep of each of the individual disciplines of march, hymn tune and own choice test piece to once again lift the imposing trophy.

Their fine performances of the march 'Ravenswood', and one of the five 'Red Hymn Book' hymn tunes saw them pick up individual awards, but it was their test piece choice of 'Harmony Music' that certainly caught the ear of adjudicator Owen Farr to give them a clear victory over second placed Bon Accord Silver, who played 'Music for Battle Creek', with Newmilns & Galston in third.

Awards

Newmilns also took the 'Best First Section Band Award' for their bold performance of 'Variations on a Ninth' with Perthshire Brass taking the Second Section honours with their rendition of 'Olympus'.

The Third Section prize was won by Campbeltwon Brass with 'Variations on Laudate Dominum' with Bon Accord B taking the Fourth Section award with the same piece.

Packed day

It rounded off a packed day of music making at the Adam Smith Theatre, with 18 bands from Championship to Fourth Section taking part and with a wide variety of test piece choices also on show from classics by Gregson and Vinter to new works by Paul Lovatt-Cooper and Dan Price.
