Details of the BBC Radio 2 Young Brass Award 2016 have been announced on Radio 2's 'Listen to the Band'.
Nationwide
The award is the network's nationwide search for emerging young brass musicians, and provides young performers with the opportunity to both showcase their talents and progress with their musical careers.
Eight successful entries will be invited to record up to 10 minutes of music of their own choice with Brighouse & Rastrick Band at the BBC Studios in Salford. The judges will then select four players to go through to the final, which will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 2.
Prize
The prize for the winner of The Radio 2 Young Brass Award will be a feature session on Radio 2's 'Listen to the Band', and a broadcast performance with an established group.
The list of semi-finalists will be announced on Thursday December 17th and the semi-final competition will be held on Sunday February 21st at the BBC Studios in Salford.

Final
Finalists will be announced on March 4th and with the final itself held on April 15th at The Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.
Previous winners of the Award include Ben Thomson — now principal tuba at the Royal Opera House Orchestra and Katrina Marzella — inaugural title winner in 2004, and now solo baritone with Black Dyke and 2015 winner Grand Jameson (above).
The 2016 Young Brass Award is open to musicians aged 16-21 and resident in the UK.
