Daniel Hall joins Grimethorpe's artistic team as the newly appointed Young Composer in Residence.

Dan Hall

Grimethorpe Colliery Band has announced the appointment of Daniel Hall as their Young Composer in Residence.

New role

He will take up his new role with immediate effect with the young Cornishman joining composers Dan Price and Nigel Clarke as part of the band's artistic team.

Daniel was awarded a scholarship to study composition at South West Music School, leading onto a further scholarship at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama. He has already been the composer in residence with the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain

Leading bands

His colourful and inventive works have already been commissioned by many leading bands and ensembles, including Grimethorpe, Tredegar, Eminence Brass and the A4 Brass quintet, with his work now published by Prima Vista Musikk.

His music has been heard on programmes at some of the UK's leading concert auditoriums, including the Royal Opera House, The Sage Gateshead and The Barbican.

Bowled over

Music Director Dr Robert Childs told 4BR: "I was first introduced to Dan's music whilst recording a recent CD and was bowled over by its freshness and maturity.

Over the moon

Daniel meanwhile added: "I was over the moon when I received the phone call with the amazing invitation to be associated with Grimethorpe.

It's a huge honour to work with Dr Bob Childs and such an incredible band and a real privilege provide music for some of the finest brass musicians in the world."
