Black Dyke under the direction of Prof Nicholas Childs will perform in Shirebrook in November in a concert that will feature a world premiere of a new work by Philip Sparke commemorating the sacrifice of those who fought and lost their lives in the First World War.
In Memoriam — To the Fallen
Commissioned by Bolsover District & Shirebrook District Councils, 'In Memoriam — To the Fallen' will also feature an emotive narration by 'Listen to the Band' presenter Frank Renton of the poem 'To the Fallen' by Robert Binyon, which is used at Remembrance Services throughout the world.
Free Black Dyke workshops
Prior to the 7.00pm evening event on Saturday 7th November, Black Dyke will be providing a FREE one-day workshop for junior brass and percussion players (aged 25 years or under) up to Grade 4 standard, to help improve their playing skills.
More accomplished players (Grade 4+) under 25 years of age can also take part in a FREE day of workshops with the principal Black Dyke players and will be given the chance to perform in a massed band item with the National and European champion in the concert itself.
