On a tour that has certainly been full of many musical highlights, Grimethorpe added to the list by becoming the first British brass band to perform in Tasmania.
And it proved to be a memorable 'first' too as they were given a wonderful welcome at Hobart airport before being driven to Wrest Point, a massive hotel and casino complex set on the stunning city waterfront.
Packed to the rafters
It was obvious that the banding public of the island of half a million people were not going to miss the chance of hearing the Brass in Concert champion perform either, with the 1000 seat Wrest Point arena packed to the rafters.
Inundated
Tour Manager Craig Roberts told 4BR: "Both before and after the concert the band was inundated with requests for photos and to chat to people from all walks of musical life — including supporters from Glenorchy City Concert Brass, Hobart Wind Symphony, Derwent Valley Concert and even the Australian Army Band."
Humbling
Director of Music Dr Robert Childs agreed: "To see so many people come so far to hear us is really humbling — especially when you hear that Grimethorpe is also their favourite band.
The reception we received before, during and after the concert was amazing. I think we could have set up a special Tasmanian supporters club on the night!"

Hospitality
Dr Childs also added that the hospitality on show was also something to cherish too — with the band even meeting up with actors who performed in the 2009 touring stage version of 'Brassed Off!".
"Throughout our tour the Australian people have been such wonderful hosts — and I think the Tasmanians wanted to ensure we left with superb memories and a few sore heads in the Onyx Bar after the concert!"he said, before adding. "I did make the promise that the band will be back in the future, so that may have ensured a few more celebratory drinks were on hand!"
Grimethorpe now makes a return trip to Melbourne to perform in Monash before taking flights to Adelaide and Perth.
