Thornton and Wilby to star at Bolsover Summer School

Euph star David Thornton will be the guest artist at the forthcoming Bolsover Summer School — alongside a brand new work from the pen of Philip Wilby.

The Bolsover Summer School has announced details about its end of course Gala Concert which takes place in Heritage High School, Boughton Lane, Clowne (Derbyshire) S43 4QG on Friday 31st of July.

New commission

Conductors Brett Baker, David Thornton and Joseph Cook will all take part in various elements of the concert (which starts at 7.00pm), with one of the highlights being Philip Wilby's new commission 'The Lion and the Rose' based on a poem about Bolsover Castle.

The commission has been written specially for the Summer School and receives a premiere at the concert.

This year the event also features David Thornton as guest soloist. David will play 'Czardas' by Victorio Monti, 'Rhapsody for Euphonium' by Paul Sharman and 'In Christ Alone' by Richard Phillips.

The tickets for the concert are £4.00 with concessions being £3.00 available on the door or from Carole Hirst on 07979 240423.

Longridge Band

Harrogate Band

June 15 • After a fantastic result at the Wetherby Drovers Contest, The Harrogate Band are looking for a front row and a back row cornet player to complete the team. Rehearsals Weds 8pm with occasional Sundays at our own bandroom with great transport links


Tintwistle Band

June 15 • We have a vacancy for soprano cornet, and with lots of exciting engagements coming up would love to get this seat filled!. As a second section band,we rehearse every Monday and Thursday 8-10pm at our bandroom in Tintwistle under the baton of MD Jim Henson.
