Report & Results: 2015 Holme Valley Slow Melody & Ensemble

Plenty of cracking playing on show at the Holme Valley Solo Competition — led by trombonist Stephen Lomas.

Contest

There was another great day's entertainment provided by the entrants at the fifth Holme Valley Solo Competition, held at the impressive Hade Edge bandroom.

Range

Adjudicator, Sandy Smith, was on hand to pass on his experience to a range of competitors from seasoned campaigners to beginners, and complimented the quality of performances throughout the day.

In the end it turned out to be a very successful contesting outing for trombone player Stephen Lomas, who won the 'Open' section and was part of the very impressive 'In Slide Out' trombone trio which claimed the 'Open Ensemble' prize.

Super performance

Earlier, young Chiara Eckersley impressed in the '11 & Under' section, producing a super performance of 'Softly Awakes My Heart' off the number 1 draw to take the honours. Chiara was later joined by Eleanor Bate to claim the Junior Ensemble prize.

Competition organiser, Graham Bates told 4BR: "It's been a great day in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere and I'm so please to see how the youngsters who have been playing at these competitions are now developing".
