There is a rare chance to hear one of the world's finest brass quartet ensembles in action later this month, as Eminence Brass perform at the forthcoming Holmfirth Arts Festival.
Renowned
The quartet of David Childs, Richard Marshall, Owen Farr and Iain Culross is being featured as part of the internationally renowned festival, which takes place between the 11th & 21st June.
Included in their concert programme, which takes place on Friday 19th June at the Holy Trinity Church, Holmfirth, will be the premiere of two new works.
Parthian Shot
The talented young composer Dan Hall has written 'Parthian Shot', inspired by the great military tactic invented by the ancient Iranian empire during the Arsacid dynasty.
The exotic Arabic/Third Stream work utilises middle-eastern rhythms and the traditional maqam modes.
Novella
Meanwhile, 'Novella' by Ben Hollings, a graduate of The University of Huddersfield and currently Composer/Arranger in Residence to the Carlton Main Freckly Colliery Band, is a beautifully constructed work of lyricism, specially commissioned by the group.
The audience can also look forward to music by Mozart, Haydn, Handel, Karl Jenkins, Philip Wilby, Dan Price and solos from each of the players.
Looking forward
David Childs told 4BR: "We're really looking forward to performing at the Festival, especially presenting world premiere performances of works by two young British composers, Dan Hall and Ben Hollings.
In the absence of Phil Cobb, we're also delighted to welcome Grimethorpe Colliery Band's Principal Cornet Iain Culross to the group on this occasion."
