The Foden's Band has moved quickly to fill the musical gap created by Glyn Williams joining Cory, with the news that euphonium star David Thornton has joined the Sandbach band.
Extremely pleased
Band Manager Mark Wilkinson told 4BR: "We are extremely pleased that David has accepted our offer and will commence his new role on the 7th July.
David is widely regarded as one of the world's leading euphonium players having previously held solo euphonium roles with Fairey, Black Dyke and more recently with Brighouse & Rastrick.
He is in demand around the world as a guest soloist, clinician and teacher, whilst his four solo CDs have received critical acclaim. We are very lucky to be able to welcome an award winning performer at the very highest level."
The band also looks to the future and their education profile is very impressive, along with their innovative new music projects and composer collaborationsDavid Thornton.
Thanks
Speaking about his new appointment David added: "I must thank Brighouse & Rastrick for the last four years. There have been many highlights, not least winning the Nationals in 2011 and producing a solo CD with the band in 2014.
Professor David King has been an inspiration throughout this time and I often find myself quoting him in both my teaching and conducting!"
Looks to the future
He added: "I've been very privileged over the last twenty years to be involved in bands steeped in history, and Foden's is no exception.
The band also looks to the future and their education profile is very impressive, along with their innovative new music projects and composer collaborations.
I recognise I have big shoes to fill in following Glyn, but I'm excited and looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead.
I'm also pleased I'll be able to align my work with Sterling Musical Instruments with the band, which has an excellent relationship with the company."
