4BR has been informed that the 2015 Durham 'BRASS Festival', which runs from Thursday 16th to Sunday 19th July in and around the historic city, will feature a host of exciting musical events.

Sagbutts

In addition to the joint forces of Cory, Tredegar and Reg Vardy Bands providing the Gala Concert finale on the Sunday, it has been announced that there will also be performances by the renowned ensemble of His Majestys Sagbutts and Cornetts, the Dunedin Consort, and Scotland's leading contemporary music ensemble Red Note, amongst others.

Wide range

Robin Byers, Service Manager for Places and Experiences at Durham County Council told 4BR: "BRASS 2015 brings together a wide range of brass music from the rich sounds of our traditional brass bands, to swing, brassed up hip-hop and lively brass sounds from around the world.

There's a lot to explore and discover at this year's festival in what will be a packed four days — and still more to announce in the coming weeks. Stay tuned."

Celebration

BRASS is an annual celebration of Durham's musical heritage and of the role brass music has played in its community both traditionally and today.

The festival aims to support and nurture the county's tradition of brass music and each year presents a wide-ranging and adventurous programme of events including outdoor performances, international collaborations and community and educational work.

70,000 visitors

The 2014 festival attracted almost 70,000 visitors with a strong loyal local audience alongside a significant national audience and 99% of visitors gave it an 'excellent' or 'good' rating.

Since April 2012, BRASS has been supported by Arts Council England's National Portfolio funding and a further three year's support has just been confirmed. The festival is run by Durham County Council.
