Elland Silver Band may not be standing at the forthcoming General Election, but they have appealed for help in gaining votes in order to try and gain an Aviva Community Fund Award.
Public votes
The application for a £5,000 award has been accepted, but its success depends upon votes coming in from the public who wish to support Elland gaining valuable funds to purchase new instruments, music and uniforms so they can expand their beginner brass programme.
Over the last few years the Yorkshire band has been put in place a very successful music education programme working closely with several local primary schools (as above).
More children
With more instruments to loan out they hope to be able to give even more children opportunities to learn to play an instrument.
MD, Samantha Harrison, told 4BR: “I’m proud of this project as it’s available to all young people within the community; it encourages community involvement and is delivered by volunteers who are passionate about music.
It also encourages young people to become better citizens and gives them something to be proud of.”
